ADHD Assessments for Adults
ADHD, or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, is a condition that affects how someone pays attention, controls impulses, and manages energy levels. It’s like having a brain that works in high gear most of the time, which can make it challenging to focus on tasks, stay organised, or sit still for long periods.
For someone with ADHD, their mind might wander off during conversations, or they may feel restless in situations where others seem calm. It’s important to know that ADHD isn't about laziness or a lack of intelligence—far from it! In fact, many people with ADHD are incredibly creative, energetic, and have unique problem-solving skills.
There are different types of ADHD: some people mainly struggle with focusing (often called inattentive ADHD), while others may be more hyperactive and impulsive, or they might experience a combination of both.
The good news is that with support like therapy, medication, and lifestyle strategies, people with ADHD can learn how to harness their strengths and navigate challenges. If you, or someone you know has ADHD, it’s about understanding how your brain works and finding what helps you shine. At Rebecca M Psychology, we see ADHD as a superpower when harnessed and understood correctly.
Bec is now accepting clients who wish to explore a possible ADHD diagnosis. Bec works with adults 18 years and older. The process includes:
❁ Exploration of Symptoms: Questionnaires and psychometric assessments sent via email to yourself and family/ close person (returned before the initial intake session).
❁ First Session: an initial intake session which explores your concerns, strengths and history (approx. 50 minute).
❁ Second Session: a detailed background and clinical diagnostic interview (approx. 1.5-2 hours).
❁ Comprehensive Investigation: Bec will then spend hours going through all the information provided and creating an extensive report (which will be discusses in the feedback session).
❁ Feedback and Report: A feedback session will be booked 2-3 weeks in advance. This session will discuss the report, results and ongoing recommendations for support (approx. 50 minutes).
Cost: This entire process costing is determined on an individual basis, however is usually $1600 (this costing may change depending on the individuals needs), and is completed online via zoom. This pricing includes 3 1-on-1 sessions with Bec via zoom (approx. 3.5 hours or more), scoring of all questionnaires and psychometrics, reviewing all previous reports including school reports and information gathered, and a comprehensive report for your records.
Steps for an Assessment
❀ Contact our office hello@rebeccampsychology.com
❀ We will book you in for your initial intake session and will talk you through the process. We may also book in the 2-3 other sessions needed for the potential diagnosis at the time of booking for continuation of care and so that you get the session times you need.
Important Information:
❁ Questionaries and psychometrics are needed for the assessment, those who do not complete the required standardised questionnaires and psychometrics will not be able to receive a potential diagnosis.
❁ Assessment fees may be subject to change based on our initial assessment and initial screening questionnaires which may highlight different diagnoses (e.g. that it may not be ADHD, or that there are other diagnoses alongside ADHD). This may need other assessments or referrals to other practitioners.
❁ Medicare does not cover assessment and as such, there can be no rebate. However, some private health insurance may cover part of the assessment - please contact your private health cover for more information.
❁ The approximate fee of $1600 can be paid in a lump sum or over a payment plan of 2 or 4 instalments. The full fee must be paid prior to the diagnostic interview. Please contact us for more information.
❁ Psychologists do not prescribe medications. You will need to speak with your treating doctor and/or a Psychiatrist for a discussion around potential medication.
❁ Your report is usually completed and sent 2-4 weeks after the diagnostic interview phase. This will be discussed further with clients on an individual basis.
