ADHD Assessments

ADHD Assessments

ADHD, or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, is a condition that affects how someone pays attention, controls impulses, and manages energy levels. It’s like having a brain that works in high gear most of the time, which can make it challenging to focus on tasks, stay organised, or sit still for long periods.

For someone with ADHD, their mind might wander off during conversations, or they may feel restless in situations where others seem calm. It’s important to know that ADHD isn't about laziness or a lack of intelligence—far from it! In fact, many people with ADHD are incredibly creative, energetic, and have unique problem-solving skills.

There are different types of ADHD: some people mainly struggle with focusing (often called inattentive ADHD), while others may be more hyperactive and impulsive, or they might experience a combination of both.

The good news is that with support like therapy, medication, and lifestyle strategies, people with ADHD can learn how to harness their strengths and navigate challenges. If you, or someone you know has ADHD, it’s about understanding how your brain works and finding what helps you shine. At Rebecca M Psychology, we see ADHD as a superpower when harnessed and understood correctly.

Bec works with adults 18 years and older. The process includes:

Contacting us: Contacting Rebecca M Psychology so that we can talk you through the process, discuss costing and if we are the best service for your needs, and finally booking in your sessions.

Exploration of Symptoms & Assessment: Evidence based questionnaires and psychometric assessments will be sent via email to yourself and family/ close person (returned before the initial intake session).

First Session: Following best practice, an initial intake session which explores your concerns, strengths and history, focusing on factors relevant to ADHD.

Second Session: a detailed background and clinical diagnostic interview utilising both ACE+ and DIVA diagnostic interviews.

Comprehensive Investigation: Bec will then spend time going through all the information provided and creating an extensive report (which will be discussed in the feedback session).

Feedback and Report: A feedback session will be booked 2-3 weeks in advance. This session will discuss the report, results and ongoing recommendations for support. Bec will then make sure you are happy with your report and it will be sent to you after the feedback session.

Cost: This entire process costing is determined on an individual basis, however is usually $1600 (this costing may change depending on the individuals needs and if any differential diagnoses are highlighted - this will be discussed on a person-to-person basis). We are able to offer payment instalments, however full payment is needed before the first session. It may also be helpful to contact your private healthcare provider as some providers offer rebates.

FAQS:

Can I get a diagnosis without doing the questionnaires?

❁ Questionaries and psychometrics are needed for the assessment, those who do not complete the required standardised questionnaires and psychometrics will not be able to receive a potential diagnosis.

Does Medicare cover some of the assessment and report?

❁ Unfortunately, Medicare does not cover assessment and as such, there can be no rebate. However, some private health insurance may cover part of the assessment - please contact your private health cover for more information.

Can you prescribe me medication if I am diagnosed?

❁ Psychologists do not and can not prescribe medications. You may wish to speak with your treating doctor and/or a Psychiatrist for a discussion around potential medication before or after our assessment. If your sole purpose is to gain medication, it may be best to go directly to a Psychiatrist. Our ADHD diagnosis and report process is designed to help you better understand your brain and how it works best, and create a pathway for you going forward.

When do I receive my report?

❁ Your report is usually completed and sent 2-4 weeks after the diagnostic interview phase. This will be discussed further with clients on an individual basis.
